Barro’s Pizza recently got approval from the Casa Grande Planning and Zoning Commission to build a new restaurant — across the street from an existing eatery operated by the long-running Valley pizzeria business. On Aug. 1, the commission approved the site plan for a new retail development that would include a Barro’s Pizza location and would have space for another retailer to open shop in the Pinal County city.According to documents filed with the city of Casa Grande, B&B Pizza McCartney LLC, which is owned by Barro’s owner Bruce Barro, proposed building an 8,331 square foot, multitenant building for a restaurant and retail space to be located on a 1.41-acre parcel at 465 W. McCartney Road in Casa Grande, west of the southwest corner of McCartney and Pinal and just across the street from another Barro’s location. The new location would be 5,513 square feet with an 882-square-foot patio, according to a site planned submitted to the city. The plans call the development “the Barro’s Retail Shops.” Barro’s is working with Cifuentes Studio for architecture work on the project, according to city documents. The Barro’s Retail Shops would be part of the Villago Village shopping center that is already home to a Walgreens, Starbucks, Burger King and Auto Zone.“As the Retail Shops takes shape, it promises to become not only a hub of commerce but also a gathering place where residents and visitors alike can come together to shop, dine and connect in the heart of Casa Grande’s thriving community,” Barro’s wrote in its development narrative, which was submitted to the city.It is unclear whether Barro’s plans on shuttering its other location, which has been running since 2012, once the new store opens. The company did not immediately respond to the Business Journal’s inquiries about its plans in Casa Grande.Barro’s also has another location in Casa Grande in a 6,000-square-foot building at 839 N. Promenade Parkway that used to house Mimi’s Cafe.Barro’s Pizza is a family-owned and operated pizza restaurant chain with 50 locations across Arizona, mostly in the Phoenix area and with one restaurant in McKinney, Texas. The company has been operating in the Valley for decades and has been on a bit of an expansion in recent years.
