Scottsdale Plaza Resort lays out plans for major renovations, expansion


The Scottsdale Plaza Resort, a 404-room hospitality property at the northwest corner of Scottsdale Road and Indian Bend Road, is moving forward on plans to build new rooms, restaurants and spa on the property.Earlier this year, the property’s owner, New York-based Highgate, applied with the town of Paradise Valley for changes to the property’s special-use permit. Those changes were approved this summer.In 2021, a partnership between premier hospitality management company Highgate and Boston-based real estate private equity firm Rockpoint Group acquired the nearly 50-year-old property for $90.75 million.According to documents filed with the town of Paradise Valley, plans call for the redevelopment of the east side of the 40-acre property near Scottsdale Road — including 64 additional guest units, three new restaurants, new spa with café including second-level pool area, new lobby pavilion, redesigned resort pool with second level viewing deck and other enhancements throughout the property.In total, Highgate wants to add 153,230 square feet to the property across 12 new buildings. Plans also call for demolishing several existing buildings, totaling more than 39,000 square feet.The attorney who represents Highgate told the Arizona Republic that Highgate is not making the expansion costs public.
