PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A state bill is under consideration that would offer additional options aimed at alleviating the Valley’s well-known housing crisis.Arizona’s State Senate has passed HB2720 in a 17-11 vote. The bill requires cities with a population of more than 75,000 to allow accessory dwelling units, or casitas, at properties where a single-family home is zoned.Advocates say it’s a good step to address the Valley’s housing shortage, while some critics have concerns that it will invite abuse from short-term rentals. State Senator Anna Hernandez addressed those concerns with an amendment on the bill, requiring owner occupancy attached to any casita used as a short-term rental.Arizona’s Family will keep you updated on the path of this bill as it makes its way through the Arizona legislature.See a spelling or grammatical error in our story?
