Amkor’s $2B Arizona plant will create 2,000 local jobs. What kind and what will they pay?


With Amkor Technology Inc. securing a development agreement this week for its $2 billion semiconductor assembly and testing facility in northern Peoria — the largest of its kind in the nation — it will have about 2,000 jobs to offer in the coming years.For the northwest Valley, that presents an opportunity for immense economic development around the master-planned Vistancia community. Its developer owns part of the land on which the plant will soon be built, near Loop 303 and Vistancia Boulevard.What Amkor jobs will open up?Though jobs are not expected to become available for a few more years, at least not until Amkor’s facility gears up for production by about 2027, the company said it plans to hire a mix of positions, such as engineers, technicians, operators and support staff.About a third of the jobs will comprise engineers with a bachelor’s degree or higher, explained Jennifer Jue, Amkor’s vice president of Investor Relations.
