As Highway 180 culvert project continues, sandbags could soon come down for Coconino Estates

After several years in which sandbags have lined many of the streets throughout the neighborhood of Coconino Estates, city officials said residents of that area will be able to begin removing sandbags this summer. The news comes as work on the final project planned within the Schultz Creek Drainage — a much-expanded culvert and channel under Fort Valley Road — is ongoing.

Ed Schenk, City of Flagstaff stormwater director, takes a photo of the work being done to replace the culvert under Highway 180 where the Schultz Creek drainage flows toward the Rio de Flag. A compromised 3-foot round culvert has been replaced with a pair of concrete box culverts to handle postfire flood runoff.
