Letter to the Editor: Arizona Realtors don’t shy away from the competition


I was interested to read the July 9 article titled, “Phoenix among worst cities for residential real estate agents, study says.”Naturally, the title attracted my attention, as I have been a Realtor in the Phoenix area for 26 years. I have found it one of the best cities to be a residential real estate agent. So I am responding to offer a different perspective.As noted in the article, there are good markets and then more difficult markets, which can make conditions more competitive. A good Realtor welcomes any kind of competition and the opportunity to present their resume to a new client. It is a competitive field, and professional Realtors don’t balk at that. Their experience becomes evident from the very first client meeting.The article also emphasized that Realtors in New York City earn a higher salary than Phoenix agents. I certainly hope they do. They receive more compensation due to the high price of real estate. The majority of real estate agents across the country make less than a Realtor in New York.About the National Association of Realtors’ settlement, anyone who has ever sold their home or has sales experience recognizes that the seller and buyer need each other to complete a real estate transaction. It is a symbiotic relationship. The new law tells us that the seller is not required to pay the buyer’s agent’s compensation. But the truth is, they never had to in the first place — it has always been negotiable.Both agents play key role in real estate transactionBoth agents play a vital role in a transaction. In my opinion, it is essential that both the buyer and seller have their own agent to protect their respective interests.
