Vice President Kamala Harris in Arizona to highlight dedication to tribes, health care

Vice President Kamala Harris is visiting the Gila River Indian Community and Phoenix as part of the Investing in America tour.

Vice President Kamala Harris will return to Arizona on Thursday as a part of the Biden administration’s Investing in America Tour.Harris will spend time in Phoenix and the Gila River Indian Community to highlight the administration’s commitment to tribal nations and Native communities.The Gila River community announced in April that it was securing federal funds to conserve water. That includes $83 million from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Act and the Inflation Reduction Acts, for a pipeline to move water from the reservation to its Pima-Maricopa Irrigation Project Facility.The money will go toward creating a project that will save up to 125,000 acre-feet of water over two years.While in Arizona, Harris is expected to speak on climate, access to capital, protecting the Indian Child Welfare Act and maternal health.’Historic transition’:Vice President Kamala Harris makes case for clean energy at AZ transmission line groundbreakingNative women are more than twice as likely to die as a result of pregnancy-related issues, according to a White House news release. Harris has supported a number of initiatives surrounding maternal health, including the White House-led Maternal Health Blueprint for Addressing the Maternal Health Crisis and the first White House Maternal Health Day of Action.On her most recent visit to Arizona in January, Harris discussed a transmission line connecting Arizona and California. She promoted the Inflation Reduction Act, which authorizes $370 billion dollars to fight climate change.
