Firefighters from across Minnesota gathered at the State Capitol on Sunday to honor their fallen comrades during the annual Minnesota Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service. The event recognized 247 firefighters who have died in the line of duty since 1881, including Dylan Roffers, the most recent addition to the memorial wall. Roffers, who served with the Randall Fire Department, died in February from a cardiac event after responding to a call.
Governor Tim Walz and other state officials attended the ceremony, which included a reading of names, bell ringing, and a ceremonial procession. The Minnesota Fire Service Foundation organizes the event each year to pay tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of firefighters who put their lives on the line for their communities.
