Chris Camacho, who has served as the president and CEO of the Greater Phoenix Economic Council (GPEC) for over nine years, is stepping down to take a senior role at technology company Axon. Under Camacho’s leadership, GPEC helped attract numerous companies to the Phoenix area, contributing to the region’s rapid economic growth and increased national visibility. He will now serve as Axon’s chief growth officer, where he’s expected to help expand the company’s global public safety and justice technologies.
Camacho’s transition marks a significant change for the region’s economic development landscape. GPEC’s board of directors, chaired by Mesa Mayor John Giles, will begin a national search to find his replacement. Camacho expressed pride in his time at GPEC and enthusiasm for his new role at Axon, which is based in Scottsdale and is known for developing law enforcement tools such as body cameras and Tasers.
