Arizona a hot destination for Gen Zers, millennials seeking opportunity, report finds


Just over a quarter of Arizona’s newest residents are members of Gen Z, and the Grand Canyon State is the second most-attractive state for movers from that age group, according to a new report.The latest U.S. Migration Trends report from StorageCafe found that Arizona added 22,309 Gen Zers through net migration in 2023, which was 26% of the newcomers to Arizona that year. Only South Carolina netted more new Gen Z residents (24,161).The report tracks with other datasets that have found Phoenix to be among the hottest relocation destinations in the country, as well as a top 10 U.S. real estate market.The StorageCafe study said millennials and Gen Z members are the primary drivers of long-distance moves as these younger groups search for career opportunities, affordable housing and new experiences.After South Carolina and Arizona, the top five destinations for Gen Z were North Carolina, the District of Columbia and Florida, with the report noting that members of this generation are looking for places “where they can get access to dynamic job markets and laid-back, comfortable lifestyles.”Arizona in particular holds allure based on those fac …
