
Freeway improvement projects along Interstate 10 will lead to road closures this weekend around the downtown Phoenix area.The improvements include additional lanes, bridge upgrades and traffic shifts, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.ADOT recommended drivers take alternate routes along Loops 101 and 202, as well as Interstate 17. ADOT also recommended allowing extra time to get around Phoenix. The southbound State Route 51 ramp to westbound I-10 will be closed. ADOT also said that other ramps may be closed in the area.When: 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday.Alternate routes: ADOT recommended traffic going westbound on I-10 detour on northbound I-17 at the Split and reconnect with I-10 at the Stack.Eastbound I-10 closed between US 60 and Ray RoadDetails: Eastbound I-10 will be closed between U.S. 60 and Ray Road for the Broadway Curve Improvement Project. Eastbound U.S. 60 off- and on-ramps at Mill Avenue will be closed. The new westbound I-10 right lanes between Baseline Road and 40th Street will also be closed. Drivers should expect heavy traffic and delays, ADOT said.When: 10 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday.Alternate routes: Drivers can take eastbound Loop 202 to southbound Loop 101 and westbound Loop 202 to reach I-10 past the closure. The westbound Loop 101 Beardsley access road will be open starting at 51st Avenue but will be limited to one lane.Southbound I-17 narrowed to 1 lane between Carefree Highway and Dixileta DriveDetails: Southbound I-17 will be narrowed to one lane between State Route 74/Carefree Highway and Dixileta Drive so crews can work on pavement improvements.When: 9 p.m. Friday to 9 a.m. Saturday; 9 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday; and 9 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday.Alternate routes: ADOT recommended allowing extra time to travel this stretch. The department warned travelers to stay on the freeway rather than attempting to detour on nearby streets that aren’t designed for freeway traffic.Southbound SR 143 closed between Loop 202 and I-10Details: Southbound SR 143 will be closed between Loop 202 and I-10 near the airport for a traffic shift.
