Interstate 17 paving project near Anthem starts this weekend

PHOENIX — Crews are scheduled to resurface Interstate 17 between Carefree Highway and Anthem Way in a project that starts this weekend.
The improvements won’t require immediate lane restrictions or full lane closures on I-17, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT).
However, drivers should expect both on- and off-ramp closures as crews work on the roads.
Details on Interstate 17 paving project
Overnight work on the $15.1 million paving project is scheduled to begin Sunday. Crews initially will improve cross-street sidewalks and add new guardrail near the Anthem Way interchange.
Coming up in August, night crews will begin stripping the top layer of existing pavement with fresh asphalt.

Other improvements will include sealed bridge decks, new signs and guardrail, highway shoulder repairs, the installation of drainage pipes and new pavement markings.
ADOT plans to complete all the road upgrades by spring 2026.
The project was funded by the federal National Highway Performance Program.
