ADOT contractor crash on Tucson highway saves lives, investigation ongoing





TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) – A crash involving an Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) contractor’s vehicle on a Tucson highway has led to an ongoing investigation. The crash occurred when a semi-truck struck a crash truck that was trailing behind a truck painting the highway.The driver of the crash truck, part of PMI Pavement Markings from Phoenix, was released from the hospital with minor injuries and taken home by the company. The crash truck effectively protected the crew operating the paint truck, preventing more severe injuries.DPS stated, “A construction worker contracted with ADOT was struck in his vehicle by a semi. The worker has minor head injuries.” The semi-truck driver was flown to a Tucson hospital with unknown injuries.Upon impact, the semi caught fire, causing the westbound lanes to close for several hours before reopening around 4 p.m. The investigation is ongoing, with no citations issued yet as the at-fault driver remains hospitalized.
