2 stretches of I-10 will be closed during busy weekend for freeway construction

PHOENIX — Interstate 10 traffic will have to detour around two long construction zones during a busy weekend of Valley freeway closures and restrictions.
Parts of the Loop 101 Agua Fria Freeway and State Route 143 will also be closed, and several other areas will be disrupted by roadwork, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) Weekend Freeway Travel Advisory for Oct. 4-7. (All times noted below are subject to change.)
There will be one closure of I-10 in each direction. The westbound lanes will be closed from the I-17 “Split” interchange near Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport to the I-10 “Stack” interchange west of 19th Avenue from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for paving and signage work. The southbound State Route 51 ramp to westbound I-10 and other ramps in the area will be off-limits, too.

Westbound traffic can bypass the closure by taking I-17 at the “Split” and reconnecting with I-10 at the “Stack.”
The eastbound closure spans from the US 60 (Superstition Freeway) in Tempe down to Ray Road in the Ahwatukee/Chandler area from 10 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday for Broadway Curve Improvement Project work. The eastbound US 60 off- and on-ramps at Mill Avenue and other area ramps will also be out of commission.
To avoid this closure, motorists can head east on the Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway or US 60 and take the southbound Loop 101 Price Freeway to the westbound Loop 202 Santan Freeway to get back to I-10. Eastbound traffic coming from the West Valley should consider traveling south and east on the Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway to reach the Chandler/Ahwatukee area, ADOT said.
