Preparation work for the construction of two new roundabouts on Highway 305 on the north end of Bainbridge Island is underway, as is work for a fish-barrier removal project over Sam Snyder Creek in Suquamish. And work on another fish-barrier removal project on the highway, at Murden Creek near Sportsman Club Road on Bainbridge Island, is nearing completion, according to the state’s Department of Transportation.Roundabouts coming at West Port Madison Road, Adas Will Lane and Agatewood RoadOn the north end of Bainbridge Island, a state contractor will construct new, single-lane roundabouts on the highway at West Port Madison Road and at Adas Will Lane, as well as a new feature that will make the Agatewood Road-Highway 305 intersection right-in/right-out and eliminate what can be dangerous left turns across the highway. Work crews have already done some restriping and tree removal along the highway.Scarsella Brothers Inc., based in Kent, was awarded a $10.5 million contract for the work. The project is expected to be completed by fall 2024.”They’ll shift the traffic around, and for most of the project it’ll be one lane open in each direction as it is now,” said WSDOT spokesperson Mark Krulish.Travelers may see occasional traffic stops of up to 20 minutes at a time on weekdays during daytime hours through Nov. 22.Bridge at Sam Snyder CreekWork has begun at the site of a future 239-foot steel girder bridge that will span Sam Snyder Creek in Suquamish, near the highway’s intersection with Totten Road and Lemolo Shore Drive. The bridge will replace a pair of 270-foot, 36-inch concrete pipe culverts that the creek currently runs through. Work crews will also do stream realignment and restoration.Next summer, a two-lane bypass road will keep travelers moving as the new bridge is constructed over the creek.Scarsella Brothers was also awarded the state’s contract for the Sam Snyder Creek project, in the amount of $25.2 million.The state has eventual plans for another roundabout at the Totten/Lemolo Shore-Highway …
