2 lanes of Gilbert Road Bridge over Salt River set to reopen


PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Great news for East Valley drivers! A bridge over the Salt River is scheduled to partially reopen this week.The Maricopa County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) will reopen part of the Gilbert Road Bridge on Friday no later than 4 p.m. The bridge will provide two lanes between Mesa and SR-87 (Beeline Highway).Official say the opening comes just in time for the Fourth of July weekend. One lane in each direction will be open for drivers. Residents heading out of town for the East Valley will be able to take the new route to get to Fountain Hills and beyond. The bridge will provide two lanes between Mesa and SR 87 (Beeline Highway).(Arizona’s Family)Construction work will continue on the second half of the bridge as traffic moves across the completed portion, officials say. Workers will also be removing the old bridge to the east. The bridge was closed in 2015 when damage was found to several foundation piers. Then, in 2023, the ground-level detour through the river bottom was severely damaged due to heavy monsoon flooding.
