Davenport, Iowa-based Happy Joe’s Pizza & Ice Cream is making its Arizona debut.The 75,590-square-foot development will be within Greer Ranch Plaza at the northwest corner of Peoria Avenue and Reems Road in Surprise and is expected to open during the second or third quarter of 2025. Another store is slated to open during the second quarter of 2025 in the Oro Valley near Tucson.Once hiring and training are complete, the new Surprise store will employ more than 50 people, said Thomas Sacco, president, CEO and Chief Happiness Officer for Happy Joe’s.”Happy Joe’s is part of a large parcel being developed, and the building will be owned by the franchise entity,” Sacco said.With Mukhpal Toor as franchisee under Mukhi Shah 1080 LLC, a new 6,400-square-foot restaurant will be part of a 75,490-square-foot Happy Joe’s family entertainment complex complete with a shopping center, Chevron Extra Mile C-store, an express car wash and a few other restaurants.Plans call for future expansion across Arizona, Sacco said.”Happy Joe’s Pizza is aggressively looking or sites in Maricopa, Pima, Pinal, Yuma and Cochise counties,” he said.It’s too early to determine total development costs for either of the projects.Rogue Architect has been selected as architect for the Surprise project, but a general contractor is still being determined, he said.Founded in 1972 by Joe Whitty in Davenport, Iowa, Happy Joe’s has eight company-owned and 34 franchise locations throughout the Midwest.• Reusable container maker Rehrig Pacific Co. has opened its new manufacturing plant in Buckeye after starting construction on the project i …
