Arizona appeals court upholds order that forced clearing of ‘The Zone’

Although the homeless encampment has been gone for 10 months, the appeals court made clear that the lower court’s order was still relevant.

The Arizona Court of Appeals on Aug. 27 upheld a lower court ruling that forced Phoenix to clear people and their possessions from “The Zone,” a homeless encampment that spread across more than a dozen downtown blocks.The encampment grew over the years around a campus at Madison Street and 12th Avenue that provides services to people experiencing homelessness.
