ADOT won’t be removing rockslide debris near Sunflower just yet

The Arizona Department of Transportation announced a postponement to a closure of State Route 87 to remove rockslide debris north of Sunflower originally scheduled for July 14.The overnight project was intended start at 9 p.m. on Sunday, July 14, and end by 8 a.m. Monday, July 15, to remove boulders and debris next to the northbound lanes.Removing the debris would close the freeway near milepost 228 between Bush Highway and SR 188, about 9 miles north of Sunflower. When the closure takes place, drivers can detour using SR 188 and U.S. 60 through Globe or SR 260 and I-17 through Camp Verde. Drivers traveling through Show Low can take U.S. 60.The rockslide debris is currently separated from traffic by a barrier wall, according to ADOT, and a new start date for the project hasn’t been announced.
