Several West Valley roads, bridges and highways are slated for improvements as part of the 2026-2030 Five-Year Transportation Facilities Construction Program, approved by the State Transportation Board late last month. The $11.5 billion program by the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) emphasizes expanding several key highways throughout Greater Arizona.In the West Valley, this includes improving the I-17/Loop 303 interchange and constructing State Route 30, a planned freeway in the southwest part of the Phoenix metropolitan area.“For Greater Arizona, which encompasses areas beyond Maricopa and Pima counties, the construction program emphasizes improving highway pavement and bridge infrastructure,” ADOT said in a press release. “These projects will improve highway safety, efficiency and functionality, such as intersection improvements, updates to ports of entry and rest areas, smart technologies and new signals, signs and shoulders.”
The nearly 350-page program largely focuses on “Greater Arizona Highway Projects” throughout the state and the “Airport Capital Improvement Program,” which provides funding alongside the Federal Aviation Administration for projects to design and construct safety, security and capacity enhancements at the Grand Canyon National Park Airport, which ADOT operates.
